Modern vinyl – musical zombies that refuse to die.
It started with CBS (12″ vinyl record) and RCA Victor (7″ vinyl record) in the late 1940’s and has been critical in the dissemination of music and popular culture ever since.
CD's tried to kill off vinyl from the 1980's (cynics would say because they had a lower cost of production for a similar retail price) but vinyl refuses to die, and, although digital downloads now represent the major part of the market, it is expected that the value of vinyl sales will surpass that of CD's in 2020 in the U.S.A.
